Target Background

Function
Regulates myosin II activity and organization during embryo elongation. May be involved in the organization of mlc-5 into bundles. Required maternally for cytokinesis during meiosis and mitosis in the early embryo and for the establishment of embryonic anterior-posterior polarity.
Gene References into Functions
  1. MLC-4 is assembled into small myosin puncta in the myoepithelial sheath in somatic gonad. MLC-4-containing myosin II is a Rho GTPase-regulated generator of contractility and that the two myosin II populations coordinate to produce actomyosin contractility for successful ovulation. PMID: 26864628
Subcellular Location
Cytoplasm. Cytoplasm, cytoskeleton.
Tissue Specificity
Expressed in the spermathecal and uterine walls. Weak expression in gonadal sheath and intestinal muscle. Not detected in vulval, pharyngeal or body wall muscles.
