Target Background

Function
Sulfurates the molybdenum cofactor. Sulfation of molybdenum is essential for xanthine dehydrogenase (XDH) and aldehyde oxidase (ADO) enzymes in which molybdenum cofactor is liganded by 1 oxygen and 1 sulfur atom in active form. Modulates cold stress- and osmotic stress-responsive gene expression by acting as key regulator of abscisic acid (ABA) biosynthesis.
Gene References into Functions
  1. AtLOS5 overexpression induced the expression of ABA biosynthetic genes to promote abscissic acid accumulation. PMID: 26743432
  2. These data suggest that overexpression of LOS5/ABA3 could improve drought tolerance in transgenic soybean via enhanced abscissic acid accumulation. PMID: 23581509
  3. Overexpression of the AtLOS5 gene increased abscisic acid level and drought tolerance. PMID: 22412184
  4. Identification of persulfide-binding and disulfide-forming cysteine residues in the NifS-like domain of the molybdenum cofactor sulfurase ABA3. PMID: 22004669
  5. Overexpression of LOS5 in transgenic tobacco can enhance drought tolerance. PMID: 21889046
  6. Mutation in Moco-sulfurase causes diminished aldehyde oxidase and xanthine dehydrogenase activities and loss of efficient chloroplast protein import. PMID: 20374530
  7. analysis of the NifS-like domain of ABA3 from Arabidopsis thaliana which has a role in molybdenum cofactor sulfuration PMID: 15561708
  8. the C-terminal domain of ABA3 might act as a scaffold protein where prebound desulfo-molybdenum cofactor is converted into sulfurated cofactor prior to activation of aldehyde oxidase and xanthine dehydrogenase. PMID: 18258600
