Target Background

Function
Function in let-60 Ras signaling pathway; acts downstream of lin-45 raf kinase, but before the lin-1 gene product in controlling vulval cell differentiation. Plays a negative role in proximal germline proliferation in the mitotic zone. Required for progression of developing oocytes through the pachytene stage. In oocytes, inhibits the activity of the chloride channel clh-3, likely by activating gck-3. Plays a role in response to M.nematophilum-mediated bacterial infection by promoting tail swelling and preventing constipation. Involved in fluid homeostasis. In addition, involved in the up-regulation of lysozyme ilys-3 expression in the intestine in responses to M.nematophilum-mediated bacterial infection. By phosphorylating transcription factor skn-1 (isoform c) may play a role in increasing life span downstream of lin-45, let-60 and mek-2. By up-regulating cep-1 and down-regulating gld-1 expression in the late pachytene stage, plays a role in germline apoptosis in response to DNA damage. Regulates egl-1 expression in response to DNA damage, probably upstream of cep-1.; Suppresses germline tumor formation by preventing the dedifferentiation of secondary spermatocytes probably upstream of rskn-1.
Gene References into Functions
  1. The results suggest that the MPK-1/ERK regulatory network, including FBF-1, FBF-2, and LIP-1, controls the number of sperm by regulating the timing of the sperm-oocyte switch in C. elegans. PMID: 28782521
  2. data suggest that KIN-18 coordinates meiotic progression by modulating the timing of MPK-1 activation and the progression of recombination events PMID: 26510792
  3. We show that MPK-1 signaling plays important developmental roles in pachytene progression and in regulating CEP-1 expression in pachytene, and a possible direct role in DNA damage induced apoptosis PMID: 21901106
  4. In the proximal germline, sperm-dependent physiological MPK-1 activation results in phosphorylation-based inactivation of NOS-3, FEM-CUL-2-mediated degradation of TRA-1 and the promotion of membrane organization during oogenesis. PMID: 21571224
  5. C. elegans ERK kinase MPK-1 or ERK phosphorylating/activating kinase MEK-2 constitutively activates native ClC anion channel CLH-3b. PMID: 21160027
  6. Data indicates that MAP kinase signaling antagonizes PAR-1 signaling during early embryonic polarization. PMID: 19720857
  7. GCK-1 is a negative regulator of MAP kinase activation and apoptosis in the C. elegans germline PMID: 19826475
  8. MPK-1 thus may act not only in the control of individual processes but also in the coordination of contemporaneous processes and the integration of sequential processes in germline development PMID: 18073423
