Target Background

Function
Involved in formation and maintenance of cell shape. Required for the formation of proper helical filaments of MreB and for cell wall synthesis in the cylindrical part of the cell leading to cell elongation.
Gene References into Functions
  1. MreC acts in a morphogenic pathway that couples the helical cytosolic Mbl cables to the extracellular cell wall synthetic machinery, which is critical for cylindrical elongation of the rod-shaped cells. PMID: 16101995
  2. Data show that there is a complex network of interactions involving TagA, -B, -E, -F, -G, -H, and -O and the cell shape determinants MreC and MreD and MreC is part of a large multienzyme complex mediating the synthesis and export of WTA precursors. PMID: 18156271
Subcellular Location
Cell membrane. Cell septum. Membrane raft.
