Target Background

Function

Component of the post-replicative DNA mismatch repair system (MMR). Forms the heterodimer MutS gamma (MSH2-MSH7 heterodimer) which binds to DNA mismatches thereby initiating DNA repair. MutS gamma recognizes specifically the T/G single base mismatch, but not trinucleotide insertion-deletion loops (IDL).

The results suggest that MSH7 is involved in UV-B-induced DNA damage recognition and in controlling meiotic recombination. PMID: 25465032
