Target Background

Function
Peptidoglycan polymerase that catalyzes glycan chain elongation from lipid-linked precursors. May play a role in peptidoglycan assembly during cell division in collaboration with other cell division proteins.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Data show that MtgA localizes at the division site of Escherichia coli cells that are deficient in PBP1b and produce a thermosensitive PBP1a and is able to interact with three constituents of the divisome, PBP3, FtsW, and FtsN. PMID: 18165305
Subcellular Location
Cell inner membrane; Single-pass membrane protein.
Protein Families
Glycosyltransferase 51 family
