Target Background

Function
Acts as an adapter for the myotubularin phosphatase mtm1 to regulate mtm1 protein stability and possibly its intracellular location. By stabilizing mtm1 protein levels, required for skeletal muscle maintenance but not for myogenesis. In skeletal muscle cells, does not regulate mtm1 subcellular localization.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Analysis of mtmr12 morphant fish showed pathological changes with central nucleation, disorganized Triads, myofiber hypotrophy and whorled membrane structures similar to those seen in X-linked myotubular myopathy PMID: 23818870
Subcellular Location
Cytoplasm. Sarcoplasmic reticulum. Cytoplasm, myofibril, sarcomere.
Protein Families
Protein-tyrosine phosphatase family, Non-receptor class myotubularin subfamily
