Target Background

Function
Constitutes a precursor of the transcription factor. Mediates the autocatalytic cleavage that releases the Myelin regulatory factor homolog 1, N-terminal component that specifically activates transcription of genes involved in synaptic rewiring during nervous system maturation.; Membrane-bound part that has no transcription factor activity and remains attached to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane following cleavage.; Transcription factor that specifically activates expression of genes involved in synaptic rewiring during nervous system maturation. Specifically required for dorsal D (DD) GABAergic motor neurons synaptic rewiring. Acts in complex with myrf-2 paralog.
Gene References into Functions
  1. MYRF-1 and MYRF-2 are the first genes identified to be indispensable for promoting synaptic rewiring in C. elegans PMID: 28441531
  2. The mammalian and insect homologues of pqn-47 may serve similar roles in regulated secretion PMID: 21989027
Subcellular Location
[Myelin regulatory factor homolog 1]: Endoplasmic reticulum membrane; Single-pass membrane protein.; [Myelin regulatory factor homolog 1, N-terminal]: Nucleus. Cytoplasm.; [Myelin regulatory factor homolog 1, C-terminal]: Endoplasmic reticulum membrane; Single-pass membrane protein.
Protein Families
MRF family
Tissue Specificity
Widely expressed in many tissues, including neuronal, muscle and epidermal stem cells. In neurons, expressed in dorsal D (DD) GABAergic motor neurons.
