Target Background

Function
Acidic protein, which assembles histones into an octamer (in vitro). Involved in the regulation of the localization and the function of the septins during mitosis. Involved in the function of B-type cyclins.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Study found that Nap1 efficiently promotes disassembly of adjacent nucleosomes with which RSC collides and not the disassembly of nucleosomes mobilized by RSC. These results suggests a mechanism by which Nap1 is recruited to actively transcribed regions and assists in the passage of the transcription complex through chromatin, and it provides a novel mechanism for the coordinated action of RSC and Nap1. PMID: 27273866
  2. these results define the distinct roles for histone chaperones Chz1 and Nap1 to regulate Htz1 incorporation into chromatin. PMID: 25338502
  3. Nap1 and DNA directly compete for H2A-H2B histones. Nap1 stabilizes the fold of H2A-H2B histones PMID: 23973327
  4. findings show that Nap1 and Vps75 regulate cryptic transcription observed in the absence of Ctk1. Rtt109 acetylation of H3 K9 also plays a role in this pathway, and both Vps75 and Nap1 promote acetylation of H3 in the ORF. PMID: 23401858
  5. present evidence for a paradigm in which nucleosome assembly requires the elimination of competing, nonnucleosomal histone-DNA interactions by Nap1. PMID: 20347425
  6. the histone chaperones Nap1 and Chz1 have separate Htz1-dependent and -independent functions PMID: 19929865
  7. structural analysis of nucleosome assembly protein 1 PMID: 16432217
  8. A beta-hairpin comprising the nuclear localization sequence sustains the self-associated states of NAP1. PMID: 18068721
  9. These data show that Nap1 phosphorylation by CK2 appears to regulate Nap1 localization and is required for normal progression through S phase. PMID: 18086883
  10. Nap1 regulates transcription of PHO5 & interacts directly with Yra1 & genetically with other TREX complex components & Mex67. Nap1 connects transcription elongation, chromatin assembly, & messenger RNP complex biogenesis. PMID: 18227150
  11. analysis of a thermodynamic model for Nap1-histone interactions PMID: 18728017
