Target Background

Function
Reductase transferring electrons from NADH to cytochrome b5. Required for the NADH-dependent electron transfer involved in the desaturation and hydroxylation of fatty acids and in the desaturation of sterol precursors. No activity with NADPH as electron donor.
Gene References into Functions
  1. CBR1 has a crucial role in increasing the levels of unsaturated fatty acids, which activate the PM H(+)-ATPase and thus reduce rhizosphere pH PMID: 26712506
  2. These results indicate that cytochrome b5 reductase is not essential during vegetative growth but is required for correct pollen function and seed maturation. PMID: 23995085
Subcellular Location
Mitochondrion outer membrane; Single-pass membrane protein.
Protein Families
Flavoprotein pyridine nucleotide cytochrome reductase family
Tissue Specificity
Expressed in roots, stems, flowers and siliques. Detected in leaves.
