Target Background

Function
Involved in nitrate transport, but does not seem to be able to mediate transport by its own. Acts as a dual component transporter with NTR3.1. Acts as a repressor of lateral root initiation under high sucrose/low nitrate conditions.
Gene References into Functions
  1. A major role for the high-affinity nitrate transporter NRT2.1 in increasing root hydraulic conductivity PMID: 26823528
  2. Glucose elevates NRT2.1 protein levels. PMID: 24272701
  3. Data indicate that leaf nitrogen concentration was lower in mutant nitrate transporter nrt2 than the wild type but was not different for mutant nitrate reductase 2 (nia2) and nitrate reductase 1 (nia1). PMID: 23414092
  4. deletion in the high affinity nitrate trasporter NRT2.1 in Arabidopsis results in a reduced susceptibility to Pseudomonas syringae. PMID: 22580578
  5. Results show that, in the atnrt2 mutant lacking both AtNRT2.1 and AtNRT2.2, gene functions present different kinetic parameters on the NH(4)(+) ion influx mediated by the HATS, according to the source and availability of nitrogen. PMID: 22137605
  6. conclude from this study that posttranscriptional regulation of NRT2.1 and/or NAR2.1 plays a predominant role in the control of the NO(3)(-) HATS in Arabidopsis PMID: 22158677
  7. NRT2.1 has a direct stimulatory role in lateral root development and coordinates root development with external NO(3)(-) availability. PMID: 16415211
  8. Repression of NRT2.1 and NRT3.1 by high nitrates is specifically mediated by the NRT1.1 transporter. PMID: 16998085
  9. The function of NRT2.1 and NAR2.1 as a two-component system transporting nitrates in A. thaliana is reported. [AtNRT2.1] PMID: 17012411
  10. NRT2.1 has a major role in the inducible high-affinity transport system. PMID: 17085507
  11. NRT2.1 has a role in regulating root nitrate uptake in Arabidopsis thaliana PMID: 17573350
  12. the AtNRT2.1 protein is located in the plasma membrane of the root cells PMID: 17583518
  13. The activity of a cis-acting element in the NRT2.1 gene of A. thaliana is described and discussed. PMID: 17897408
