Target Background

Function

Component of the nuclear pore complex that has a direct role in nuclear protein import. Actively displaces NLSs from importin-alpha, and facilitates disassembly of the importin-alpha:beta-cargo complex and importin recycling. Binds to transcriptionally active chromatin sites when located in the nucleoplasm and is involved in transcriptional activation.

Gene References into Functions

Study analyzed genomic interactions of full-length nucleoporins Nup98, Nup50, and Nup62 and found that they predominantly interacted with active genes inside the nucleoplasm, particularly those involved in developmental regulation and the cell cycle. PMID: 20144760
