Function

Mediates degradation of arginine for nitrogen recycling. Plays a role in non-host disease resistance by regulating pyrroline-5-carboxylate metabolism-induced hypersensitive response.

Ornithine-delta-aminotransferase (deltaOAT, At5g46180), the enzyme converting Orn to pyrroline-5-carboxylate (P5C), is localised in mitochondria and is essential for Arg catabolism. PMID: 18419821
