Target Background

Function
Methylates OH residues of flavonoid compounds. Converts quercetin into isorhamnetin. Dihydroquercetin is not a substrate. Catalyzes the methylation of monolignols, the lignin precursors. Does not contribute to the phenylpropanoid pattern of the pollen tryphine, but is probably confined to isorhamnetin glycoside biosynthesis. Involved in melatonin biosynthesis. Can function as acetylserotonin O-methyltransferase. Catalyzes the transfer of a methyl group onto N-acetylserotonin, producing melatonin (N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine).
