Target Background

Function
This is a key enzyme of plant metabolism catalyzing the first reaction in the biosynthesis from L-phenylalanine of a wide variety of natural products based on the phenylpropane skeleton.
Gene References into Functions
  1. PAL1 and PAL2 also have functional specialization in abiotic environmental-triggered flavonoid synthesis. PMID: 18242769
  2. Data show rapid upregulation of PAL1, suggesting that an early induced, cell wall-based defence mechanism occurs in response to non-adapted bacteria and knockout of PAL1 permits increased leaf survival of non-host bacteria. PMID: 18251883
Subcellular Location
Cytoplasm.
Protein Families
PAL/histidase family
