Target Background

Function
Required for the maintenance of centromeric cohesion during interkinesis, until meiosis II. Required for regular configuration and segregation of sister chromatids in meiosis II. Also required for centromere cohesion during meiosis I. Involved in spindle organization at the end of telophase I and in meiosis II. Required to prevent precocious release of pericentromeric cohesins during meiosis, but not for cohesion establishment and monopolar orientation of kinetochores at meiosis I. Involved also in somatic development. Regulates mitotic cell division and ploidy stability in somatic cell types. May be involved in the organization of microtubules dynamics. Involved in abiotic stresses and mono- or divalent ions tolerance and may play a role in maintaining meristematic activity under saline conditions. PANS1 and GIG1 are part of a network linking centromere cohesion and cell cycle progression through control of APC/C activity. Regulates the number of dividing cells in root meristem and is necessary for the anaphase onset control through an APC/C-mediated pathway. Involved in maintaining correct chromosome arm cohesion under stress conditions.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Likely, CMR1/PANS1 coordinates mitotic cell cycle progression by acting as an anaphase-promoting complex/cyclosome (APC/C) inhibitor and plays a key role in growth adaptation to stress. PMID: 26261921
  2. PANS1 is expressed mainly in meiosis I where it has an important function; PANS1 and OSD1 are part of a network linking centromere cohesion and cell cycle progression through control of Anaphase Promoting Complex/Cyclosome (APC/C) activity. PMID: 26272661
  3. preserves ploidy stability during meiosis and mitosis PMID: 24506176
Subcellular Location
Nucleus. Cytoplasm.
Tissue Specificity
Expressed in somatic and reproductive tissues. Expressed in inflorescence, young buds, roots and basal portion of young leaves. Expressed in proliferating cells such as apical meristems of roots and shoots, expanding cotyledons and leaves, root vascular t
