Target Background

Function
May be involved in intracellular signaling through interaction with PtdInsPs and calmodulin (CaM); may keep PtdInsPs attached to the plasma membrane until Ca(2+)-CaM reaches a competitive concentration subsequent to an increase triggered by a stimulus, thus leading to PtdInsPs release and subsequent activation of InsPs-dependent signaling cascade (Probable). Binds to microtubules and inhibits tubulin polymerization. Regulates directional cell growth and cortical microtubule organization by destabilizing microtubules (e.g. in cotyledon pavement cells).
Gene References into Functions
  1. Results indicate a function of MICROTUBULE-ASSOCIATED PROTEIN18 (MAP18) in the regulation of Rop GTPase ROP2 (ROP2) activation during root hair growth. PMID: 28314794
  2. maintains nucleus at fixed distance from the apex during root hair growth by modulating actin filaments PMID: 25929794
  3. MAP18 is required for normal pollen tube growth in vitro. PMID: 23463774
  4. The N23 domain of PCaP2 negatively regulates root hair tip growth via processing Ca(2+) and phosphatidylinositol phosphates (PtdInsPs) signals on the plasma membrane, while the residual domain is involved in the polarization of cell expansion. PMID: 23445487
  5. PCaP2 is involved in intracellular signaling through interaction with PtdInsPs and calmodulin in growing root hairs. [PCaP2] PMID: 20061304
  6. MAP18 may play a role in regulating directional cell growth and cortical microtubule organization by destabilizing microtubules.[MAP18] PMID: 17337629
