Target Background

Function
Plasma membrane transporter which mediates resistance to water-soluble, monocarboxylic acids with chain lengths of from C1 to C7 by active extrusion of the preservative anions from the cytosol. Also involved in the export of aromatic and branched-chain organic acids produced in amino acid catabolism.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Overexpression of PDR12 increased tolerance to acids with longer chain length, such as sorbic, propionic and levulinic acid, whereas deletion of PDR12 increased tolerance to the shorter acetic and formic acid. PMID: 24691985
  2. findings indicate that Pdr12p is involved in export of the fusel acids, but not the fusel alcohols derived from leucine, isoleucine, valine, phenylalanine and tryptophan. PMID: 16911515
  3. membrane protein Pdr12 is involved in fluorescein extrusion, but component(s) other than Pdr12p is (are) also important. PMID: 18800175
Subcellular Location
Cell membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
Protein Families
ABC transporter superfamily, ABCG family, PDR (TC 3.A.1.205) subfamily
