Target Background

Function
Catalyzes the formation of pyridoxal 5'-phosphate from ribose 5-phosphate (RBP), glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate (G3P) and ammonia. The ammonia is provided by PDX2. Can also use ribulose 5-phosphate and dihydroxyacetone phosphate as substrates, resulting from enzyme-catalyzed isomerization of RBP and G3P, respectively. Also plays an indirect role in resistance to singlet oxygen-generating photosensitizers.
Gene References into Functions
  1. X-ray structures of PDX1.3 from Arabidopsis thaliana, the overall architecture of which is a dodecamer of (beta/alpha)8 barrels, similar to the majority of its homologs, is reported. PMID: 27647886
  2. Data indicates a negative influence of PDX1.2 on vitamin B6 biosynthesis and a correlation between aberrant vitamin B6 content, PDX1 gene expression, and light sensitivity specifically for PDX1.3. PMID: 20675613
  3. This study shows that the spatial and temporal expression patterns of PDX1.1 and PDX1.3, investigated at the transcript and protein level, largely overlap, but PDX1.3 is more abundant than PDX1.1. [PDX1.3] PMID: 17227548
Subcellular Location
Cytoplasm. Cell membrane. Membrane.
Protein Families
PdxS/SNZ family
Tissue Specificity
Expressed in cotyledons, rapidly dividing root stele tissues, stems, leaves, flowers, mature pollen, and siliques.
