Target Background

Function
Phosphorylase is an important allosteric enzyme in carbohydrate metabolism. Enzymes from different sources differ in their regulatory mechanisms and in their natural substrates. However, all known phosphorylases share catalytic and structural properties.
Gene References into Functions
  1. The action of MalQ on maltose or maltodextrin can lead to the formation of glycogen and that MalP controls (inhibits) this pathway. PMID: 21421758
  2. A comparison of ATPHS2 and DPE2 from A. thaliana with MalP and MalQ from E. coli is presented. PMID: 16980562
  3. Difficulty is reported in determining MalP ternary complexes from the crystal structures having in the catalytic site both substrates, oligosaccharide and tetrahedral phosphate analogues, at full occupancy and with low thermal factors. PMID: 18164678
