Target Background

Function
Mannosyltransferase involved in glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchor biosynthesis. Transfers the first alpha-1,4-mannose to GlcN-acyl-PI during GPI precursor assembly.
Gene References into Functions
  1. PNT1 directly binds to mRNA of a key chlorophyll biosynthetic gene, protochlorophyllide reductase in vivo and inhibits the translation of PORA mRNA in the presence of phytochromes. PMID: 22232680
  2. The different phenotype of pnt1 cells in embryos and callus suggest a differential requirement for GPI-anchored proteins in cell wall synthesis in these two tissues and points to the importance of GPI anchoring in coordinated multicellular growth. PMID: 15772281
Subcellular Location
Endoplasmic reticulum membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
Protein Families
PIGM family
Tissue Specificity
Expressed in influorescence meristem. Present at low level in roots, hypocotyls, leaves and stems.
