Target Background

Function
Involved in cytokinesis and possibly cellularization. Also acts as an enhancer of the sina gene, thus having a role in photoreceptor development. May be involved in p53-dependent apoptosis.
Gene References into Functions
  1. No oogenesis violations were observed in females with decreased peanut gene expression or an absence of the Pnut protein in the ovary generative cells PMID: 26606795
  2. Peanut is ubiquinated by Parkin and has a role in the neural cell death of autosomal recessive juvenile parkinsonism. PMID: 17456438
  3. These results show that the interaction of Orc6 with the septin complex is dependent on the coiled-coil domain of Pnut, and suggest an active role for Orc6 in septin complex function. PMID: 18987337
Subcellular Location
Apical cell membrane; Peripheral membrane protein. Cleavage furrow. Cytoplasm, cell cortex.
Protein Families
TRAFAC class TrmE-Era-EngA-EngB-Septin-like GTPase superfamily, Septin GTPase family
Tissue Specificity
Accumulates at the leading edge of the cleavage furrow in dividing cells and cellularizing embryos (at protein level).
