Target Background

Function
Plays a major role in chloroplast RNA editing. Acts as a site-recognition transacting factor to recruit C-deaminase. Involved in single RNA editing events. Required for the edition of the site 1 of ndhD (ndhD-1 site corresponding to cytidine-2), which is a plastid-encoded subunit of the NADH-plastoquinone oxidoreductase. The interaction with DYW1 is required for its function in editing the ndhD-1 site.
Gene References into Functions
  1. DYW1, by interaction with CRR4, provides in trans an essential function required for editing of the ndhD-1 site. PMID: 23001034
  2. crr4 is among genes responsible for the specific RNA editing event in the chloroplast [CRR4] PMID: 15662426
  3. the pentatricopeptide repeat protein CRR4 is a sequence-specific RNA-binding protein that acts as a site recognition factor in plastid RNA editing PMID: 17015439
Subcellular Location
Plastid, chloroplast.
Protein Families
PPR family, PCMP-E subfamily
