Target Background

Function

This is a copper-containing oxidase that functions in the formation of pigments such as melanins and other polyphenolic compounds. Catalyzes the rate-limiting conversions of tyrosine to DOPA, DOPA to DOPA-quinone and possibly 5,6 dihydroxyindole to indole-5'6 quinone.

Study found that some amino acids are important for rPPO3 (CG2952) (Cu(2+)-aided auto-activation as well as PPO staining activity in vitro. PMID: 22579944
These results indicate that the expression of CG2952 is very low and that CG8193 is the gene that encodes proPO A3. PMID: 19141111
