Target Background

Function
Involved in redox-mediated retrograde signaling to synchronize the expression of photosynthetic genes from both the nuclear and plastidic genomes, especially in excess light conditions. Required for full expression of genes transcribed by the plastid-encoded RNA polymerase (PEP). Essential for embryo development.
Gene References into Functions
  1. regulation of PRIN2 is the thiol-mediated mechanism required for full PEP activity, with PRIN2 monomerization via reduction by thioredoxins providing a mechanistic link between photosynthetic electron transport and activation of photosynthetic gene expression PMID: 29298981
  2. Data show that PLASTID REDOX INSENSITIVE 2 (PRIN2, At1g10522), a chloroplast component involved in redox-mediated retrograde signalling. PMID: 22211401
Subcellular Location
Plastid, chloroplast stroma, chloroplast nucleoid.
