Target Background

Function
Homeodomain protein that controls neuronal identity. As a transcriptional factor, regulates the expression of ftz, eve and en in a subset of neuroblast progeny and modulates the transcriptional activity of other homeodomain proteins such as Dfd. Required for proper neuronal differentiation, axonal outgrowth and pathfinding of most or all neurons and their precursors in central and peripheral nervous systems. Regulates asymmetric stem cell self-renewal together with brat.

  4. Transient nuclear Prospero induces neural progenitor quiescence. PMID: 25354199
  5. The results of this study suggested that Prospero restricts CO(2) neuron formation indirectly via miR-279 and directly by repressing the shared target molecules, Nerfin-1 and Esg. PMID: 22049409
  6. the homeo-prospero domain coordinately regulates Prospero nuclear localization and DNA binding specificity PMID: 12429095
  7. Subcellular localization of the transcription factor Prospero is dynamic. The carboxy terminus, including the homeodomain and Prospero domain, plays a roles in regulating these changes. PMID: 12529405
  8. The complete development of the nervous system requires a full complement of Pros, and that a gradual decrease in the levels of this protein can proportionally alter the development and the function of the nervous system. PMID: 12605454
