Target Background

Function
Aminopeptidase. Required for the exit from meiosis, probably upstream of cyclin cyb-3. Involved in the establishment of the anterior-posterior polarity at the embryonic 1-cell stage by regulating the dynamics of sperm-donated centrosomes. Plays a role in oocyte maturation. Required for embryonic development.
Gene References into Functions
  1. clusters phylogenetically with the puromycin-sensitive aminopeptidase, despite attenuated sensitivity toward puromycin; functions in embryo development and reproduction of the nematode PMID: 12930831
  2. Data show that the puromycin-sensitive aminopeptidase PAM-1 is required for meiotic exit and anteroposterior polarity in the one-cell Caenorhabditis elegans embryo. PMID: 17021038
Subcellular Location
Cytoplasm. Cytoplasm, cell cortex. Chromosome. Cytoplasm, cytoskeleton, spindle pole.
Protein Families
Peptidase M1 family
Tissue Specificity
Expressed mainly in intestinal cells in the posterior part of the intestine and in amphid sensory neurons and nerve ring neurons. Expressed in neurons in the male tail. Expressed in mature spermatids (at protein level).
