Target Background

Function
3' exoribonuclease required for 5S rRNA maturation and for the proper maturation of the 5' cistron of the tRNA-Arg3 dicistronic gene. Involved with REX2 in the maturation of the 5.8S rRNA, and with REX2 and REX3, in the 3' processing of the U5L snRNA.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Although two exonucleases, Rex1 and Rrp6, have been shown to be responsible for the exonucleolytic trimming, the identity of the endonuclease has been inferred from other systems but not confirmed in vivo. PMID: 24249226
  2. These experiments reveal that one consequence of Rex1p-dependent 3' trimming is the generation of aberrant RNAs that are targeted for decay by Trf4p. PMID: 18456844
  3. A requirement for Rex1p in processing the 3' end of tRNA(i)(Met) precursors. PMID: 19042972
