Target Background

Function
Signaling peptide (root growth factor) that regulates the pattern of root growth and lateral root development by modulating the length and the number of cortical cells in the root apical meristem (RAM), and the anticlinal asymmetric cell divisions in lateral root initiation cells. Also involved in the regulation of hypocotyl bending and root gravitropism in a PIN2-traffic dependent manner, thus influencing the formation of auxin gradients. Maintains the postembryonic root stem cell niche.
Gene References into Functions
  1. The GLV1 precursor is a direct subtilase substrate. The elimination of the in vitro subtilase recognition sites through alanine substitution suppressed the GLV1 gain-of-function phenotype in vivo. The protease inhibitor Serpin1 bound to SBT6.1 and inhibited the cleavage of GLV1 precursors by the protease. PMID: 27315833
Subcellular Location
Endoplasmic reticulum.; [GLV1p]: Secreted.

RGF family
Tissue Specificity
Expressed in stems, hypocotyls, cotyledons, leaves, flowers, shoot apex, siliques, stamens and petals.
