Target Background

Function
Glucose-responsive transcription factor that regulates expression of several glucose transporter (HXT) genes in response to glucose. In the absence of glucose, it functions as a transcriptional repressor, whereas high concentrations of glucose cause it to function as a transcriptional activator. In cells growing on low levels of glucose, has a neutral role, neither repressing nor activating transcription. Binds the consensus binding site sequence 5'-CGGANNA-3', of which multiple copies are present in all HXT promoters regulated by RGT1.
Gene References into Functions
  1. RGT1 is a transcription factor that regulates expression of HXT genes encoding glucose transporters. It represses HXT gene expression in the absence of glucose; high levels of glucose cause RGT1 to activate expression of HXT1. PMID: 15489524
  2. Rgt1 binds to the RGT1 element of HXK2 promoter in a glucose-dependent manner, and the repression of target gene depends on binding of Rgt1 to DNA. PMID: 15705057
  3. Data show that two different glucose signal transduction pathways converge on Rgt1 to regulate expression of HXT glucose transporters. PMID: 16844691
  4. DNA-binding properties of the yeast RGT1 repressor are reported. PMID: 18950675
