Target Background

Function
Provides the precursors necessary for DNA synthesis. Catalyzes the biosynthesis of deoxyribonucleotides from the corresponding ribonucleotides. RNR2 provides the diiron-tyrosyl radical center.
Gene References into Functions
  1. This study characterized the surface of interaction between Hug1 and the small RNR subunit Rnr2. PMID: 25378334
  2. Wtm1 acts as a nuclear anchor to maintain nuclear localization of Rnr2/4 complexes outside of S phase. In the presence of DNA damage this association is disrupted and Rnr2/Rnr4 become cytoplasmic, where they join with Rnr1 to form an intact complex. PMID: 16452505
Subcellular Location
Nucleus. Note=Found predominantly in the nucleus under normal growth conditions and is redistributed to the cytoplasm in damaged cells in a DNA replication and damage checkpoint-dependent manner. Nuclear localization is mediated by DIF1.
Protein Families
Ribonucleoside diphosphate reductase small chain family
