Target Background

Function
Provides the precursors necessary for DNA synthesis. Catalyzes the biosynthesis of deoxyribonucleotides from the corresponding ribonucleotides. RNR4 is required for proper folding of RNR2 and assembly with the large subunits.
Gene References into Functions
  1. studies demonstrate that beta' plays a crucial role in cluster assembly in vitro and in vivo and that the active form of the yeast R2 is betabeta' PMID: 16285741
  2. Rnr2 and Rnr4 are transported between the nucleus and the cytoplasm as one protein complex. Tagging either Rnr2 or Rnr4 with a nuclear export sequence causes cytoplasmic localization of both proteins. PMID: 16489218
  3. under normal growth conditions, the cell assembles stoichiometric amounts of Y(*) and modulation of Y(*) concentration is not involved in the regulation of RNR activity. PMID: 17014081
  4. Compared to a rnr4Delta mutant that allows only very little mutation induction at very low doses of 254(nm) ultraviolet light (UVC), the pso3-1 mutant allele confers leakiness in that it permits some DNA damage-induced mutagenesis at low doses of UVC. PMID: 17287963
  5. rnr4 mutants exhibit slower growth and are more sensitive to mutagens than the wild type. PMID: 18273813

Subcellular Location
Nucleus. Note=Found predominantly in the nucleus under normal growth conditions and is redistributed to the cytoplasm in damaged cells in a DNA replication and damage checkpoint-dependent manner. Nuclear localization is mediated by DIF1.
Protein Families
