Target Background

Function
Structure-specific DNA-binding protein with a preference for cruciform structures. Also binds single-stranded DNA (ssDNA). Functions together with SGS1 and TOP3 to maintain genome integrity. Essential for proper meiotic cell division. Required for normal S-phase progression and DNA damage response. Required for resistance to the DNA-damaging agent methyl methanesulfonate (MMS).
Gene References into Functions
  1. Optimal Top3/Rmi1 Sumoylation Relies on Sgs1 Interaction, Sgs1 SIMs, and Mms21. PMID: 27373152
  2. Rmi1 stimulates Top3 in D loop dissolution during homologous recombination. PMID: 25699708
  3. Genetic analyses revealed that Rmi1 promoted sister chromatid cohesion in a process that was distinct from both the cohesion establishment pathway involving Ctf4, Csm3, and Chl1 and the pathway involving the acetylation of Smc3 PMID: 23036200
  4. Rmi1 physically interacts with Sgs1 and Top3 and is a third member of this complex. Rmi1 is also an important part of the Rad53-dependent DNA damage response. PMID: 15889139
  5. Rmi1 forms a heteromeric complex with Sgs1-Top3 in yeast and plays a role in targeting Sgs1-Top3 to appropriate substrates. PMID: 15899853
  6. Rmi1 contributes to sister chromatid cohesion. PMID: 17571075
