Target Background

Function

Required for cytokinesis. Component of the contractile F-actin ring; required for its construction following assembly of F-actin at the division site.

Data indicate several distinct functions of Rng2 at multiple stages of cytokinesis. PMID: 23615450
Mid1p recruits Rng2p to cortical nodes at the cell-division site and Rng2p, in turn, recruits other components of the actomyosin ring to cortical nodes, thereby ensuring correct placement of the division site. PMID: 21376595
The 2.21 angstrom resolution crystal structure of the amino-terminal 190 amino acids of Rng2, including the calponin-homology domain and 40 residues that do not share sequence similarity with known proteins. [Rng2] PMID: 15272162
Findings indicate that Rng2 is involved in the generation of CR F-actin and simultaneously bundles the filaments and regulates its dynamics by counteracting the effects of Adf1. PMID: 19713940
The IQGAP-related Rng2 protein is a component of the actomyosin ring and spindle pole body, and is required for actomyosin ring construction following assembly of F-actin at the division site. PMID: 9635188
