Target Background

Function
Rnase which modulates cell survival under stress conditions. Released from the vacuole to the cytoplasm during stress to promote tRNA and rRNA cleavage and to activate separately a downstream pathway that promotes cell death. Involved in cell size, vacuolar morphology and growth at high temperatures and high salt concentration.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Glycosylation of N7, N70, N103 and N123 is critical for Rny1 extracellular secretion. PMID: 24102742
  2. Biochemical flotation assays reveal that in rny1Delta cells, some tRNA molecules associate with membranes suggesting that cleavage of tRNAs by Rny1 can involve either tRNA association with, or uptake into, membrane compartments. PMID: 22829915
  3. Rny1p is released from the vacuole into the cytosol and cleaves tRNAs during oxidative stress. PMID: 19332891
Subcellular Location
Vacuole lumen. Cytoplasm. Note=Is released from the vacuole to the cytoplasm during stress conditions like oxidative stress or stationary phase stress.
Protein Families
RNase T2 family
