Target Background

Function
Zinc phosphodiesterase, which displays some tRNA 3'-processing endonuclease activity. Probably involved in tRNA maturation, by removing a 3'-trailer from precursor tRNA.
Gene References into Functions
  1. The 3.1 A crystal structure of the long-form Trz1 from Saccharomyces cerevisiae shows Trz1 is organized into 2 beta-lactamase domains connected by a long linker. The N-terminal domain has lost its catalytic residues, but keeps the long flexible arm important for tRNA binding, but it is the opposite in the C-terminal domain. Trz1 likely evolved from a duplication and fusion of the gene for the monomeric short form RNase Z. PMID: 28379452
  2. The yeast tRNA 3' endonuclease tRNase Z, Trz1, is catalyzing endonucleolytic tRNA 3' processing. PMID: 24249226
  3. In this work, we show that the yeast homolog of ELAC2, encoded by TRZ1 (tRNase Z 1), is involved genetically in RNA processing. PMID: 15892892
  4. AthTRZ1 shows a high affinity for Zn2+ ions PMID: 18052196
  5. The findings reveal that 3' end processing is a limiting step for defective tRNA maturation and demonstrate that overexpression of scTRZ1 can promote defective tRNA 3' processing in vivo. PMID: 19555350
