Function

Catalyzes the interconversion of ribulose-5-P and ribose-5-P. It has not isomerase activity towards D-allose 6-phosphate.

Data describe kinetic studies examining the allose-6-phosphate isomerase activity of RpiB from Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Escherichia coli, and show that only the E. coli enzyme can catalyze the reaction efficiently. PMID: 18640127
