Target Background

Function
One of the primary rRNA binding proteins, it binds directly to 16S rRNA where it helps nucleate assembly of the platform of the 30S subunit by binding and bridging several RNA helices of the 16S rRNA.; Forms an intersubunit bridge (bridge B4) with the 23S rRNA of the 50S subunit in the ribosome.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Analysis of processing of an untranslated lac-rpsO RNA in the pnpA strain shortly after induction of transcription suggested that endonuclease cleavage at 3'-proximal sites was an early step in turnover of mRNA. PMID: 19633085
Protein Families
Universal ribosomal protein uS15 family
