Target Background

Function
Probable O-acetyltransferase involved in the acetylation of cell wall polymers (both pectic and nonpectic polysaccharides) and of xylan during secondary wall biosynthesis. Catalyzes the O-acetylation of xyloglucan.; Seems required for infection by the necrotrophic fungal pathogen Botrytis cinerea.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Loss-of-function mutants in one of the genes, designated REDUCED WALL ACETYLATION2 (RWA2), had decreased levels of acetylated cell wall polymers and displayed increased tolerance toward the necrotrophic fungal pathogen Botrytis cinerea. [RWA2] PMID: 21212300
Subcellular Location
Golgi apparatus membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein. Endoplasmic reticulum membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
Protein Families
PC-esterase family, CASD1 subfamily
Tissue Specificity
Expressed in cells undergoing secondary wall thickeningin a SND1-dependent manner, such as xylem cells. Slightly elevated in the inflorescence stems. Mainly observed in leaves and inflorescence stem tops, but present ubiquitously.
