Target Background

Function
Component of the mitochondrial outer membrane sorting assembly machinery (SAM or TOB) complex, which is required for the sorting of proteins with complicated topology, such as beta-barrel proteins, to the mitochondrial outer membrane after import by the TOM complex.
Gene References into Functions
  1. budding yeast mitochondrial outer membrane proteins that are subunits of the translocase of the outer mitochondrial membrane (Tom70 and Tom 22) and sorting and assembly machinery (Sam37) are required for efficient pretransfer RNA splicing. PMID: 30228203
  2. We propose that ab'-NAC and Sam37 are members of the system that recognizes mitochondrial proteins at early stages of their synthesis, escorting them to the import machinery of mitochondria. PMID: 28109174
  3. Sam37 interacts with the receptor domain of Tom22 on the cytosolic side of the mitochondrial outer membrane and links TOM and SAM complexes. PMID: 26416958
  4. Daya suggest that the assembly of newly imported Tom40 is directly initiated at the SAM complex (SAM37) by its association with Tom5. PMID: 20668160
  5. Assembly of newly synthesized Tob55 into preexisting TOB complexes depended on Tob38 but did not require Mas37 PMID: 15590639
