Target Background

Function
Required for the accumulation of subunits 1 and 2 of cytochrome c oxidase complex. Thought to play a role in either mitochondrial copper transport or insertion of copper into the active site of COX.
Gene References into Functions
  1. HCC1 of Arabidopsis is the homologue of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae SCO1. PMID: 21041373
  2. THe copper binding site is co-translationally formed by a transient interaction between Cox11p and this nascent cytochrome C oxidase in the intermembrane space. PMID: 15776235
  3. Sco1 exhibits a thioredoxin-like fold, similar to that observed for human Sco1. PMID: 16570183
  4. Data show that hydrogen peroxide sensitivity of sco1Delta and cox11Delta cells is abrogated by overexpression of a novel mitochondrial ATPase Afg1 that promotes the degradation of CcO mitochondrially encoded subunits. PMID: 17430883
  5. Thiese data suggest that the absence of Sco1p causes irreversible damage to the mitochondria. PMID: 19460303
