Target Background

Function
Component of the exocyst complex involved in the docking of exocytic vesicles with fusion sites on the plasma membrane during regulated or polarized secretion. Involved in polarized cell growth and organ morphogenesis. During cytokinesis, involved in secretory processes during cell plate initiation, cell plate maturation and formation of new primary cell wall.; Participates in polarized pectin delivery required for the polarized development of the mucilage-producing volcano cells of the seed coat.
Gene References into Functions
  1. The amount of pectinaceous mucilage and seed coat structure in sec8 and exo70A1 exocyst mutants, was characterized. PMID: 20618910
  2. An allelic series of six independent T-DNA mutations reveal a role for SEC8 in male gametophyte function. PMID: 16040664
  3. SEC8 copurifies in a high molecular mass fraction of 900 kD, interacts with SEC6, and functions as a subunit in a exocyst complex that plays important roles in morphogenesis. PMID: 18492870
Subcellular Location
