Target Background

Function
RNA-binding protein that binds specific mRNAs including the ASH1 mRNA, coding for a repressor of the HO endonuclease. Part of the mRNA localization machinery that restricts accumulation of certain proteins to the bud and in the daughter cell. Recruits the MYO4-SHE3 complex to the ASH1 mRNA. Recruits also LOC1 and PUF6 to ASH1 mRNA, which are required for translational repression of this mRNA.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Combining RNA- and membrane-binding features makes She2p an ideal coordinator of ER tubule and mRNA cotransport. PMID: 24056370
  2. The binding site for She3p was mapped to a single alpha helix that protrudes at right angles from She2p. PMID: 22084309
  3. She2p is recruited cotranscriptionally to the nascent bud-localized ASH1, IST2, and EAR1 mRNA PMID: 20713510
  4. She2p is a member of a previously unknown class of nucleic acid binding proteins, composed of a single globular domain with a five alpha helix bundle that forms a symmetric homodimer. PMID: 15537539
  5. mRNA localization involves association of She2p and mRNPs with endoplasmic reticulum tubules and myosin-dependent cotransport of tubules and localized mRNPs. PMID: 16890529
  6. Results indicate that the nucleolar transit of RNA-binding proteins such as She2 is necessary for the correct assembly of translationally silenced localizing messenger ribonucleoproteins. PMID: 18566598
  7. finding on She2p tetramerization resolves previously raised questions on complex formation and mRNP function. PMID: 19710186
