Target Background

Function
E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase which accepts ubiquitin from an E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme in the form of a thioester and then directly transfers the ubiquitin to targeted substrates. Modulates amyloplast dynamics and sedimentation in statocytes during inflorescence, hypocotyl and root gravitropism, probably by regulating amyloplast interaction with actin filaments (AFs) in endodermal cells.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Gravitropic mutants phosphoglucomutase (pgm) and sgr9 show abnormal amyloplast distribution and reduced gravitropism at 1 g. PMID: 24004104
  2. SGR9 is an important component of the gravity perception mechanism that facilitates amyloplast sedimentation in the direction of gravity. PMID: 21602290
Subcellular Location
Plastid, amyloplast. Note=Localized at amyloplasts within gravity-sensing cells.
Tissue Specificity
Expressed in seedlings, hypocotyls, roots and stems. Present especially in hypocotyl and inflorescence endodermis, as well as in root cap columella, tissues that act as statocytes.
