Target Background

Function
Sigma factors are initiation factors that promote the attachment of RNA polymerase (RNAP) to specific initiation sites and are then released. This sigma factor is the primary sigma factor during all growth phases, stress and during sporulation. It associates with the RNAP core at all growth stages with a slight increase in stationary phase.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Data suggest that domain 1.1 of SigA requires minimal conformational changes for binding to RNAP core in the DNA channel. (SigA = sigma factor from Bacillus subtilis; RNAP core = RNA polymerase from Thermotoga maritima, core is composed of 5 subunits: 2 alpha, beta, beta-prime, omega) PMID: 28539362
  2. Analysis of the sequence in proximity of the transcription start site revealed a sequence suitable for the housekeeping sigma(A) subunit of RNA polymerase. PMID: 16964327

Cytoplasm.
