Target Background

Function
Transcription regulator that can specifically activate or repress expression of target genes. Required for virulence and survival in the macrophage environment. Probably activates expression of ispA, xseB genes, and of omp operon.
Gene References into Functions
  1. SlyA and other MarR global regulators rely more on indirect readout of DNA sequence to exert control over many genes PMID: 21550983
  2. Residues Leu-63, Val-64, Arg-65, Leu-67, Leu-70, Arg-86 and Lys-88 are required for DNA binding, and residues Leu-12 and Leu-126 in the alpha-helices of the N- and C-terminal regions are required for dimer formation. PMID: 17259627
  3. Systematic mutational analysis shows that no single base pair in the palindromic SlyA operator sequence is essential for DNA binding, and identifies amino acid residues required to allow SlyA to recognise DNA. PMID: 19204896
