Target Background

Function
Required for directional control of cell elongation. Stabilizes growing ends of cortical microtubules and influences their dynamic properties. Acts redundantly with SP1Ls in maintaining the cortical microtubules organization essential for anisotropic cell growth. Plays a key role in salt stress-induced microtubules disassembly.
Gene References into Functions
  1. SPR1 and EB1b have complex interactions as they load onto microtubule plus ends and direct polar cell expansion and organ growth in response to directional cues. PMID: 25415978
  2. Salt stress accelerates the 26S proteasome-dependent degradation of SPR1 and facilitates microtubule disassembly and promotes salt stress tolerance. PMID: 21954463
  3. Observations suggest that SPR1 is involved in microtubule polymerization dynamics and/or guidance, which in turn influences touch-induced directional cell expansion and axial twisting. [SPIRAL1] PMID: 15155883
  4. these observations suggest that SPR1 and SP1Ls act redundantly in maintaining the cortical microtubule organization essential for anisotropic cell growth PMID: 16478750
Subcellular Location
Cytoplasm, cytoskeleton, phragmoplast. Cytoplasm, cytoskeleton, spindle.
Protein Families
SPIRAL1 family
Tissue Specificity
Ubiquitous. High expression was associated with tissues undergoing rapid cell expansion, including the root elongation zone, hypocotyls of dark grown-seedlings, and cotyledons of light-grown seedlings.
