Target Background

Function
Binds to the DNA sequence mediating pheromone induction (called the pheromone response element = PRE) which is found in the upstream control region of several a-, alpha- and haploid-specific genes. Involved in mating of haploids and in pseudohyphae formation in diploids.
Gene References into Functions
  1. The Q/P-rich C-terminal region of Dhh1 was dispensable for growth at nonpermissive temperature 37 degrees C but appeared to play an important role in regulating the Ste12 protein expression and mating processes PMID: 28455591
  2. Ste12-dependent transcription at the centromere is repressed by Dig1 protein. PMID: 22000103
  3. for many pheromone-responsive genes, Ste12 must activate transcription by binding to cryptic or sub-optimal sites on DNA, or may require interaction with additional uncharacterized DNA bound factors PMID: 20584076
  4. identification of extensive Ste12-binding variation among individuals, and mapped underlying cis- and trans-acting loci responsible for such variation PMID: 20237471
  5. Ste12 forms two distinct complexes, Ste12/Dig1/Dig2 and Tec1/Ste12/Dig1, both in vivo and in vitro, to regulate mating and filamentation genes. PMID: 16782869
