Target Background

Function
ATP-binding RNA helicase component of the TREX complex involved in transcription elongation and required for the export of mRNA out of the nucleus. SUB2 plays also a role in pre-mRNA splicing and spliceosome assembly. May be involved in rDNA and telomeric silencing, and maintenance of genome integrity.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Both THO and Yra1-C stimulated Sub2's intrinsic ATPase activity. The authors propose that THO surveys common landmarks in each nuclear mRNP to localize Sub2 for targeted loading of Yra1. PMID: 28059701
  2. RNA helicase Sub2p mutation is associated with growth, mRNA export, and genomic stability. PMID: 23962665
  3. This work establishes a genome-wide function for THO-Sub2 in transcription elongation and mRNP biogenesis that function to prevent the accumulation of transcription-mediated replication obstacles, including R-loops. PMID: 21701562
  4. suppresses heterochormatic silencing at telomeres in parallel with its functions in transcription elongation, splicing and mRNA transport. PMID: 15942929
  5. Overexpression of Tho1 or Sub2 may provide alternative ways for mRNP formation and export in the absence of a functional THO complex. PMID: 16738307
  6. A genetic screen reveals extensive interactions between deletions of THO subunits and mRNA 3' end processing mutants. PMID: 18614048
  7. Data suggests that the THO complex/Sub2p function is required to coordinate events leading to the acquisition of export competence at a step that follows commitment to 3'-processing. PMID: 18957205
