Target Background

Function
DNA-binding protein that specifically binds the regulatory region of middle sporulation genes (MSE). Required for the repression of middle sporulation genes during vegetative growth. Represses expression via the recruitment of histone deacetylase HST1.
Gene References into Functions
  1. In the absence of Set1, there is loss of the DNA-binding transcriptional regulator Sum1 and the associated histone deacetylase Hst1 from chromatin in a locus-specific manner PMID: 29066473
  2. high copies of Sum1p stabilize microtubules against a variety of adverse and destabilizing conditions like mutations, low temperatures and drugs. PMID: 22285862
  3. Sum1p is functionally connected to the origin recognition complex. PMID: 15988008
  4. Data indicate that Sum1-1p can increase the stability of Sir-dependent silent chromatin. PMID: 16406069
  5. isoleucine enabled Sum1-1p to associate with the origin recognition complex (ORC) and accumulate near ORC binding sites PMID: 18268008
  6. The mating-type regulatory function of Sum1 was conserved in S. cerevisiae. PMID: 18559484
  7. Sum1 was found to functioned in initiation as a component of the Sum1/Rfm1/Hst1 complex, implying a role for histone deacetylation in origin activity. PMID: 18990212
  8. Data show that the Sum1 repressor can be removed from middle promoters in meiotic cells independent of Ndt80 expression, and that this process requires the phosphorylation of Sum1 by Ime2. PMID: 19528232
  9. Midsporulation elements in the SPS18-SPS19 promoter region are targeted by the Sum1p repressor in association with Hst1p and Rfm1p. PMID: 19583587
